At WAIR, the bag is a finished object before the painted detail begins. Annem Zaidi works with the assembled piece in front of her: its seams, closures, handles and panels are already part of the design.
That sequence allows the artwork to respond to the bag. It does not make the piece immune to wear, and it is not a claim about how every other maker works.
Two ways to put paint on leather
Some makers colour or decorate leather before it is cut and assembled; others add artwork to a finished piece. Working on flat material suits repeated designs and production runs. Working on a finished bag suits one-off pieces, because the artist can see the final shape. Each approach has trade-offs, and neither decides on its own how a design will wear. WAIR paints last because each commission is made for one specific bag.
Placement belongs to the whole object
A flat panel and a bag being carried are different views of the same surface. On a completed bag, Annem can consider the painted detail in relation to the shape, the hardware and the areas handled most often.
The aim is a mark that belongs on the piece. Initials might be the right choice; a custom artwork brief may call for a different conversation. Some bags remain plain, with the leather doing all the work.
From an idea to brushwork
For a collection monogram, the editor lets you choose up to three initials, a lettering style and a paint colour on an eligible silhouette. It is an illustrative study, not an exact photographic proof of the finished work. Check those choices before adding the piece to your cart.
For custom artwork, share the idea and any useful reference with Annem through Personalization. Discuss the scope, placement, price and timing for your particular brief. We do not apply a single artwork schedule to every request.
Annem paints in thin layers and seals the completed artwork. The final brushwork is made by hand on the individual piece, so it can differ from a digital study.
A new silhouette is a bespoke conversation
Sometimes the brief begins before there is a bag: a travel shape with a different proportion, a piece for yourself or a collection for a special event. Bespoke Bags is the route for designing a new silhouette from scratch, with optional initials.
You do not need to arrive with a finished drawing. Suggest a starting shape or leave that choice open, then contact Annem. Design, pricing, capacity and timing are discussed for the project. The collection’s monogram price and three-letter editor do not set the terms for bespoke work.
What happens after the bag leaves the studio
Painting after construction is a design choice, not a durability guarantee. Leather and artwork can mark with use. Keep the piece away from unnecessary abrasion and prolonged moisture, and do not apply conditioner or solvents over the artwork.
Follow the care guide and contact the studio before trying to treat damage. The right advice depends on the actual bag and the mark; a general article cannot promise that every issue can be repaired.
